DHA Architects worked on behalf of the school to convert a series of existing recessed balcony spaces into additional classrooms to include new IT and Science teaching spaces.
The existing balconies were part of the environmental design of the original school building, which was completed in 2005. As such, the team worked closely with the mechanical consultant to ensure the ventilation and daylight strategies originally employed were not unduly compromised.
The design approach was heavilty influenced by the 8 week delivery of the construction works programme, carried out whilst the school remained open and in full operation.
DHA developed the design by carefully selecting materials with the shortest lead time without limiting the availability of trades to carry out the installation during the busiest period of the construction calendar.
