The Meadowcroft facility is a medium security psychiatric intensive care unit located in Birmingham. The existing building was not purpose-built for this use, however, and DHA Architects were appointed by the Trust to provide a new extension to house a seclusion room and improve a number of existing spaces in response to recommendations made an a recent CQC inspection.
The addition of a new room required a number of changes to the existing layout to ensure the space was suitably integrated into the existing layout from a security and patient welfare standpoint.
DHA's appointment was initiated with a feasibility study outlining the design intent, outline specification, costplan and construction programme. This was helpful to the client as it enabled the co-ordination of the project with ward staff, clinicians and users from the outset.
