LUNCH TIME @ WAVERLEY SCHOOL

Client: FM
Location: Birmingham

DHA Architects were appointed to review the existing lunch servery provision at Waverley School and propose a new kitchen servery point within the existing primary school dining hall.

The proposal comprised the conversion and extension of an existing store room to provide the much needed facility, which worked within the existing table and circulation arrangements.

The project had a number of constraints, primarly the position of the existing underfloor heating manifold, which would have proven very expensive to relocate and almost stopped the whole project going ahead. DHA were, however, able to develop the design by keeping the existing manifold in the centre of the room and building the new kitchen facility around it, effectively incorporating it into the overall design.

The existing underfloor heating system did not have to be altered as part of the design, instead, the new structure was designed to minimise any loads passing onto the floor.
